Here's a free expiry date log for your products and a few tips on how to work more hygienically.
Dec 04, 2023As makeup artists our artistry goes beyond aesthetics, it's about being able to do to our jobs safely as well. As you know hygiene is my top priority, and I wanted to share a couple ways you can start next year with a clean slate (see what I did thereπ€£).
One of the easiest ways to work more hygienically is to implement a system that keeps track of your product expiry dates.
Here is a link to the product expiry date log template from the Notion app I am currently using. Click on 'DUPLICATE' to add it to your Notion. You can customize this table in notion however you like!
There is an option to turn on calendar reminders in the template so you know when things are expiring in your kit. I also added a 'Tags' column as another way to sort/search for items as the list grows. I have gotten into the habit of automatically adding every new purchase to this list to keep track of everything and I can update the list anywhere, anytime, when I open a product.
This expiry date log is also a great way to stretch your kit investment. With this spreadsheet you'll know exactly what is expiring and when so you can make an effort to use up your products so nothing goes to waste.
A few other really easy things you can do to work more hygienically:
Get (and stay) organized:
Staying organized is really the backbone of a hygienic makeup application. When you set up your station use only what you need for each application, minimizing the risk of cross-contamination. You'll also want to clearly label all the products in your kit. This not only streamlines your workflow but also prevents any mix-ups (and I find I work much faster this way).
Keep your palettes closed:
One really easy thing to put into practice is keeping palettes closed on your station while you work. This way if someone coughs or sneezes you are protecting your stuff, and you are keeping your products safe from all the spit that flys out of people's mouths during regular conversation.
This are really simple things that can make a huge difference and your clients will feel really good about seeing your kit and station clean and organized which is great for your reputation.
